The 2000 is a GREAT value. The preset (25 degrees) sharpening slot exerts pressure down on the blade to keep it square and true. The diamond coated rest even cleans off the wire formed on the back edge. However, you need to spend a bit more to really sharpen your plane irons and chisels. Important points to remember are:br /1. The two supplied grits, 80 and 220, start the process. You will need at least two more grits (perhaps 400 and 1000 minimum) to finish the job. 1000 grit discs are more difficult to find in 6 inch PSA discs. Automotive sandpaper and spray adhesive will do the trick. Both discs and paper will have to be cut to match the 150 mm disc base.br /2. You are limited to a maximum of a 1-5/8″ blade in the sharpening slot. Plane irons wider than this will have to be sharpened freehand on top, which reduces the efficiency and value. br /3. Since there is only 1 fixed angle available, you will not be able to grind a secondary bevel in the sharpening slot. You have to grind the whole face each time you sharpen using the slot.br /4. The 3000 is double the price. For that, you get a sturdier unit, same motor set at lower RPMs, a glass disc base (an additional for the 2000)with greater grit selection, and most importantly, adjustable angles in the slot (allowing easy secondary bevels). The slot is also wider (2 inch). br /br /Bottom line: If I had to do it again, I’d probably get the 3000. However, it’s close.br /

If you do, you probably have a pencil sharpener. Got chisels? If so, this is the equivalent of a pencil sharpener for chisels. Simple, slick and exact in no time. I have bought many of the cheap HF chisels for use in remodel work. I view them as throw-away items since they are often prone to hit a nail or some other surprise; not worth the time / cost to resharpen. Well, with the WS2000, all those nicked or dulled chisels are brought back to life instantly. Saves a ton of hassle to be able to always have sharp chisels on hand, much like pencils!br /br /I just got the unit and am looking forward to doing the lathe tools. Even though the provided abrasives of 220 grit give an excellent utility edge, I am going to follow the suggestion of others and order another edge-vision wheel and put a couple of very fine grit abrasives on it for even finer honing when needed.br /br /For , this is definitely a 5-star product!br /br /Hey ProTool Mfg: Your Drill Doctor DD350X Drill Bit Sharpener is outstanding. Works well, but takes some getting used to… As someone who’s never sharpened a tool before (always toss out and replace), I decided to give it a try… I had a tough time keeping the sharpened ends straight, as I used the Work Sharp on them… But that’s just me needing practice… Other than that, it worked very well on everything from chisels, an axe, and concrete breaker bits… I would recommend this product….

I have used this to sharpen my long suffering chisels, which have never had a good edge since being used. It gets them done at the right angle, and quickly. As others have said, to go the final mile you do have to do some honing by hand, but I don’t. I wouldn’t recommend using it to sharpen your pocket knife, since this task has to be done freehand, and it is hard to maintain the correct angle this way. I like the Edge-Vision feature, you see the tool under the wheel through the slots, if you have good lighting. br /I cleaned up a badly damaged axe, and even the face of a beat up hammer with this sharpener. They give you 2 wheels to use, and you can put different grits on each side of the wheel. br /I would like it if they had some sort of fixture you could attach to set the angle of an edged tool you want to sharpen.
