I love the PSP. I feel that it offers just about everything you could ask for in a portable console. However, I have always had two chief complaints as far as the design of the system is concerned. The primary of these is that I have never been able to find a way to comfortably hold the device while playing. The best solution I could come up with was to curl my ring fingers and rest the PSP on them, holding it in the back with my middle fingers thus leaving my thumbs and index fingers free to manipulate the buttons. This approach, over the course of only thirty minutes of game play would leave my ring fingers in pain from supporting the weight of the device. After I finally got fed up with the pain and potential onset of arthritis I decided to do some research on products to help eliminate this problem. I settled on this model even after reading the reviews and understanding that the claims that it doubles as an extended life battery pack were probably inflated. When the product arrived the first thing I did was attach it to my PSP 3000. My initial impression was that it seemed a little flimsy and that it most likely won’t stand up to any type of abuse or accidental mistreatment (i.e. stepping on this thing will probably destroy it). What I really wanted to see is if it was going to be functional and comfortable enough to sustain long play sessions and I am pleased to say that once it was attached to the PSP it does hold together very well. The overall construction of the grip seems to rely on being supported by the PSP and once properly attached the design appears to very solid and comfortable. During play sessions I have noticed that the section of the grip just behind the shoulder buttons is a little too close to the buttons themselves. I would have liked to see this area of the grip indented a little to allow better access to the R and L buttons. This does not greatly hinder the access to these buttons but I do find myself hitting the both the button and the grip together when I need to press R or L. Also I found that the system can slide out of the grip if I go to excitedly mash a button in a session where the game being played might call for a quick reaction. This can be corrected, I suppose by training myself not to overreact and slam on the buttons in these situations but years of gaming habits aren’t going to correct themselves overnight. Now as far as the battery pack is concerned, you are better off without it. I dismantled my grip when I first got it to see what all of the fuss was about. I found that the power supply was essentially two rechargeable AAA batteries (appear to be Nimh) wired to receive a current to recharge them and another wire to distribute power to the system. I took one look at all this crappy wiring and immediately began removing it all. I am sorry that I can’t provide any information on charge times or how long the PSP will run on the external battery but I didn’t even bother to try and use it. Anyone can probably tell you that two AAA Nimh batteries is not going to provide any substantial amount of power to support a device that is designed to run on a high capacity 3.6V 2400mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery. My advice is rip it out. It’s fairly easy to do and when you’re done you’ll have a good, functional solution to an uncomfortable design flaw of the PSP system without the annoying, useless wire hanging out from underneath. Now if they would only design a second analog nub everything would be perfect.

What I expected for . Works for what it is. My 1st gen PSP slides around a little bit in the grips but once I got it wedged in right its not really an issue. When I plug the charging cable in I get the charging indicator light, though it falls a little short of the 6 hours of gameplay it says it can get, maybe its that on the newer PSP models. It is surely better than trying to play for extended periods without any grip. My hands don’t fall asleep now when playing and the whole unit feels comfortable when playing. The L and R buttons are the slightest bit awkward to manipulate but after a few minutes of play it became a non-issue. Not the best product out there I’m sure but , like I said, what do you expect for 8?br /br /Its good for the casual gamer like myself, definitely would not hold up the the hardcore gamer, though.br /-M-

Don’t waste your money, the hand grip is straight down, not angled out like it should be. That makes it hard to hold and gives your hand cramps. As for the battery, it might give you an extra half and hour, if your are lucky. Don’t waste your money like it did.
