I read the reviews after the Consumers recommendation and fortunately read one review that noted the filter basket DOES COME OUT just by raising the handle. I normally dont read instruction manuals but I did this time and it is clear the basket is removable. And the filter is an option and not included with this package.br /br /I made my first pot and used the recommended measure of coffee and it was a little more br /than I would have used in the MrCoffee (now retired).br /This unit made a great coffee in a normal time with NO messes or spills and I love the potbr /that doesnt drip or spill when pouring.br /I think the pot has a fine handle and there are no issues with this coffee maker.br /br /The blue clock is a bright light but I dont sleep in the kitchen so I really dont mind it.br /And, now I have a pot that will turn off after 2 hours, if I forget to do so.br /br /I have no complaints but it cant be perfect when I have only made one pot so far.br /Thank you Mr Graves. You designed a fine machine and we all will benefit from better coffeebr /then we have had before.br /tc

Well Worth the Price – Dave from Caz, NY –
This coffee maker is an excellent value and brews a good steaming hot pot of coffee. Using four rounded scoops of Dunkin coffee for 10 cups is about the right amount for our taste and this is the same amount we have used historically with other machines. The brewed coffee is hot, about 185 degrees as it exits the filter and it is maintained at about 175 deg in the carafe. The carafe pours well without drips. The removable water tank is a nice touch. It makes it cleanable and we can now use water from our refrigerator filter saving the cost of in tank filters (available as an added cost option on this machine). There are a few negatives. The design of the filter basket lid has many nooks and crannies that collect condensation and make it difficult to wipe out. The carafe seems to be made of thin glass (there are multiple precautions about possible breakage in the instructions) and it is not dishwasher safe. Except for these minor deficiencies it would have a five star rating.Best Coffee Maker Ever! – Joel Orleck – Nashville, TN USA
I am sixty two years old so I have owed quite a few coffee makers in my lifetime. Without a doubt, the Michael Graves coffee maker is the best one I have ever purchased. I use 4-5 scoops of Gevalia brand coffee and it brews a fantastic cup of coffee every time. While it is true that the carafe has to be hand washed, it is a small price to pay for a machine that very easy to keep clean. I love the detachable water reservoir and I am able to use a metal filter basket instead of those paper ones.Great Buy – Stephen R. Devore – Allegan Michigan
I read the reviews before i bought this coffee maker. A few people stated the control panel was to bright at night. I figured i could also use it a a night light in my kitchen. It isnt quite that bright. The ease of filling the removeable water container is worth the price of the machine alone. The speed at which it makes coffee is much faster than my other brand. I would buy it again without reservation.Unfortunately, it really does make weak coffee – K. McCain – San Francisco, CA United States
My boyfriend and I decided to get an automatic drip coffee maker for those times when we don’t feel like using the coffee press. We were at Target and looked up the reviews on this machine. The lowest one was written a couple of years ago but mentioned that this particular machine doesn’t seem to make good coffee…as in, it comes out rather weak, despite pushing the Flavor+ button and/or adding more coffee. Other reviewers have mentioned this as well. I worked at a coffee house for several years in college so I thought, it has to be the person, not the machine, especially since other reviewers seem to love it.br /br /Well, unfortunately, the guy was right. Unless you overload the filter with a lot more coffee than necessary AND push the Flavor+ button, you’ll end up with some rather weak coffee. Frustrated by three attempts, I went out and bought a permanent gold filter basket, thinking this might solve the problem. Nope, still crappy coffee. I tried three more attempts with the new filter, using cold filtered water and the standard 1 Tbsp coffee per 6 oz water (the instructions with this coffee maker say 1 Tbsp per cup of coffee so some people might assume that means per 8 oz of water). Only on one attempt did I get a decent cup of coffee but it still tasted weird, kinda gross, actually. I thought it might be the kind of coffee I bought (I’m a coffee snob so I only buy fresh, locally roasted coffee whenever possible). As a test, I made a batch in the French press. It was awesome.br /br /Now I know comparing coffee made in a French press vs. an automatic drip is kind of pointless but I have had damn good coffee out of a drip machine so it’s definitely possible. Just not with THIS machine. As far as the other design flaws people have mentioned, I didn’t experience any such issues. But if a product can’t perform its basic requirement then the other stuff doesn’t really matter.br /br /I personally use a vacuum coffee maker at my place (the unfortunately discontinued Bodum Santos) and LOVE it. Not only does it make amazing coffee every single time, it’s easy to clean and fun to watch. I would recommend a vacuum coffee maker to anyone thinking about purchasing a drip machine. Bodum makes a stovetop version that I have yet to try (still using the Santos) and Amazon sells another one as well (Northwest Glass Yama Stovetop Coffee Siphon, 1-Unit). Now, the vacuum makers aren’t the turn-on-and-go types but once you get the hang of it (first couple of times) it’s just as fast, if not faster, than all the steps needed for a drip machine. My boyfriend has decided on the Northwest Glass Yama pot so I’ll add my review on that later.br /br /If you must buy a drip machine, don’t get this one, there are plenty of others out there that can make better coffee. Not worth the cool design, sorry.
