Note: Believe it or not, this review I have cut almost in half (I am a long breath, especially when it comes to audio). There is an excellent article on the subwoofer (and dead zones) that explains these problems much better than I [...] br / br / This is the first subwoofer that I owned (it was a Christmas gift from my son ) so I'm not what I would call an expert on this particular subject. However, I have owned high-end audio equipment since the late '70s, and I try to keep informed. I must admit that I was veryhesitating on a subwoofer inexpensive. How can a sub at this price is far from trouble, or worse, a headache? I do not like (in fact, I despise) boomy, muddy bass or distorted. Now that I got the basics of the way, we speak of BIC and this subwoofer … and there is not much to talk about.br / br / BIC Italy (formerly known as British Industry Corporation) has been around since the 60s, first as an audio dealers, then began the design and manufacture of loudspeaker systemsin the early '70s. Of fact, I remember when the first speaker systems BIC hit the market. They were known for solid sound with a fairly tight budget then, and I think that might be the case today.br / br / My BIC V-1220, although designed in the United States, was built in China (there is no escape …). This is an 8 ohm, 12-inch down-firing design that is rated from 23 Hz to 180 Hz (but not plus / minus dB is given). The 23 Hz spec came as a surprise, but omitting the dB has left mesuspect. It comes with a 200 watts of continuous RMS power BASH-designed amplifier (peaks of 430 watts RMS). This was also a big surprise and very nice, especially for a sub in this price range. The fit and finish (it's darker than what is portrayed, at least mine is) is certainly good but not great (there are many future years with the cabinetry work and beautiful wood finish, which of course ups the price of accordingly). I believe that the local dimension of this model some medium sized or a little 'below. It weighs just over 40 pounds, making it quite easy to handle. This is coned with their feet to help isolate the sub and minimize the vibration when placed on the wooden floor. This sub is not magnetically shielded, so it's a good idea to keep a foot or two away from your TV.br / br / In addition to this model to 12 inches, BIC also has 8, 10 and 15-inch models in the V – line series, and all have what BIC drawings and calls for a "Venturi" vent (eliminates the noise of the door). WARRANTIES BICthese speakers for 7 years (2 years, the amplifier). I found the manual (which covers 8, 10 and 12 inch versions) to be clear and concise and their customer service (who immediately answered all my questions e-mail). br / br / The V-series comes with a rather wide range of inputs and controls. There is a door sub RCA. This is what I and most people use a receiver with the output port sub (often referred to as LFE or Low Frequency Effects of flow). There arespeaker wire connections (often defined as high level inputs) for connection from your receiver and out to their front speakers (for those who may have great receivers without a sub output port). There is a volume or gain control and adjustable crossover control variable (from 40 Hz to 180 Hz). This is an "outside", "" car (the signal auto-detection), "on" switch (using signal sensing auto mode). There is a two-position switch for your type of receiver (DolbyPro-Logic or Dolby Digital / DTS 5.1, 6.1, 7.1). Also included is a simplistic two-phase position of the selector control ( "0" or phase or 180 degrees out of phase). One would have to use this second speaker and sub placement, as well as crossover overlap. Asking someone to alternate between the two settings as listen.br / br / So how does the V-1220 BIC sound and feel? First realize that the choice of speakers is very subjective and personal, much more than any other component or piece ofelectronics. And what I like and you like can be very different (this is why I do not like to recommend speaker systems, and that my audiophile days are behind me). What I'm saying is, audition any speaker system (if possible) before buying. You must also realize that this sub requires a break-in period (proposed by the owners of about 40 to 60 hours) due to the butyl rubber, in its construction surround (butyl rubber, while very flexible and more resistant to aging and weatheringcompared to other materials, it is naturally heavier and denser than the foam used in many around). I was surprised that the BIC did not speak of a break-in period, but anyone in possession of a speaker system BIC will say no to you to judge until you have used for several weeks or more (I've owned this sub for over a month now ). br / br / Once I went with the break-in period (which has just over two weeks), and once I experimented with the position (and dead zones), the gain and crossover (which tookanother week or so of tweaking and futzing around), this sub started to play really. The LFE channel is contained in the film come alive. Loud thunder and, above all, there was no confusion, no bottom in expansion or tubbiness or outside. It took a bit ', but this subwoofer has begun to put a smile on my face. Better yet, that seems to be getting a bit 'better, as the weeks go by (I was told would happen, and will continue to happen for several months … we'll see). LawNow, I consider the V-1220 BIC fills the room more (there are no dead zones) of my average size for an indefinite period (12 x 15 feet with a 10 foot high ceiling) with a solid, tight low-frequency sounds, and offers some serious consequences that can be easily heard. Fortunately, I found this musical sub (not just for listening to LFE content in the films). I was particularly impressed with Roger Water's concert DVD, in FLESH.br / br / How do I rate it? While I believe that this subwoofer is an excellent value (perhapseven exceptional), I find it difficult to give 5 stars. Why? Why have not I heard the competition (I have listened extensively to my son's 15-inch sub, but not a fair comparison) and are reluctant to praise too great for the blind (although I think I've already done). What I want to give it an 8 out of 10, or a solid 4 stars. Make no mistake, this is a serious subwoofer (where the term "sub" actually means something), it is difficult to imagine in a subgroup of this size andprices. Are still suspicious of the rating 23 Hz? Not so much, but I will not reach a final decision only a few months have elapsed.br / br / One last note. I have not spoken of the market high-end subwoofer. Just know that many of these subs probably the big smoke in the BIC (some are FLAT input below 18 Hz). But we are talking apples and oranges here. High-end subwoofer house starts at about four or five hundred dollars, on average, between seven hundred to one thousanddollars, and may also first four thousand dollars (and often weigh sixty, eighty, and up to a hundred pounds or more). As I said, apples and oranges (and the law of diminishing returns).

In the past I mostly used my stereo to listen to music at two channels. I like a variety of types of music, but I'm not particularly enamored of rap and I do not often want to create the atmosphere of a disco in my house. To listen to music generally, I have always believed that a good pair of network to be superior to the network of small + subwoofer (I still do), so I never bothered before with a sub. However, I got to play around with the idea of extending my home theater stereo last year andcould not resist.br / br / I bought the BIC V1220 without listening based on many positive reviews I had read and the fact that it was relatively inexpensive to a 12 "subwoofer.'m quite satisfied, in part because I did not want much. ce I crossed from the amplifier at 60Hz, and at that frequency mixes well with my network (a pair of Kef 104 / 2) for music and adds significant diamond film. It 'great fun when you watch a movie action, and adds a little 'po 'suddenly on percussion while listening to music.br / br / That said, when I move the crossover to 80Hz, which is important for many systems, I find the bass to be significantly distorted compared to my network, when a series Sampling of heavy bass music (organ, percussion, etc.). Therefore, I recommend this subwoofer, if you are trying to mate with a reliable network that can not withstand the weight of 60 Hz (almost any bookshelf is possible) although they can be met with a similar systemif not used primarily for listening to music. I also do not recommend it to anyone living in a building with wooden structure with common walls, floors and ceilings – that is not just good neighborhood! Br / br / A few other details to consider. First, as has been commented previously, only if your feet are like a carpet of nails in plastic and could be embarrassing on a wooden floor. Also, the ending is a sort of charcoal gray, so it does not blend perfectly with the typical "black ash" of the exchange, where itimportant you.br / br / Pros: Price, power, explosionsbr excellent Cons: limited range for critical listening

I replaced my 8 "Yamaha powered sub with this unit. A world of difference! The Yama, while not bad, in terms more … farted when asked to produce such low film earthquake. The BIC operates the lowest troughs, and floors agitation clarity. The low heat 12 "you can literally feel it emits low power underfoot. Performance of this sub is exceptional. I could say for the price but do not qualify because it is simply exceptional. Fit and finish are first rate. The piece is apo 'large, but I use it for a table next to my sofa. You may be able to buy a better powered sub, but not for what is true for the BIC. This is a real value.

Nice sound accurate, not muddy like some subs. Plenty of power, I have the volume to 65% and its great.br / Played War of the Worlds to test it and was really impressed. For about $ 175 price would be very difficult to find a better sub.br / 5 stars!
